Unleashing The Beast – Cam’s Journey to Health: Weeks 4 & 5

Cam’s journey to health continues…

Cam, aged 25, came to us in September 2014 with his weight having blown out of control to 140+ kilograms. Just like many of us, Cam submerged himself in food. He found comfort and peace in it, and by having such a sedentary lifestyle he used to find nothing else to do other than eat, work and sleep.

Cam had decided to loose weight, but like so many didn’t really know what to do. He had tried and failed a tonne of different diets and exercise programs.  So he half heartedly contacted us here at The Gorilla Pit to reach out for some help. From his initial consultation, he was nervous to say the least. However after understanding where Cam was at in regards to health and what he wanted to achieve we were able to draw up a blue print of how to smash those goals. He began to shift his mindset and see what an awesome opportunity this was to change his life.

The words following are from Cam’s Journal and over the next few weeks he will share the triumphs and challengers of his journey to health. The purpose of this blog is to encourage, inspire and motivate dreamers into action takers….

Training at the Gorilla pit week 4

I will start by saying I did not weigh my self this week as I said I wouldn’t But good thing is I didn’t have too, Why? Because my belt that I have had for the last 3 or so years is almost of no use to me now. Since I started training I have gone down two notches and am now on the final notch, and that is almost to loose. For me seeing weight go on a scale is great, but the belt is amazing. Anyone trying to loose weight if you don’t have a belt get one, it is a good a motivator great to see especially because I personally can’t see it in the mirror. And being so big people aren’t really noticing (not that I really worry about what people think) As for the training. Monday did upper body and I increased my weight on the floor press and incline press so I was very happy with that. Tuesday was my first leg day since recording results as I missed last Tuesday due to work. It was hard and did these things called “sissy squats”, I now know why they are called “sissy squats” cause after you do them you can’t walk properly and you walk like a sissy. Wednesday was a weird training session I was there I was motivated to be there and I was working hard but it didn’t feel like I gave 100% but I just could not give anymore. It was a very weird feeling. Thursday was the conditioning class and I tell you it was the hardest thing in the world. And I gave 110% and felt 110% afterwards. I really felt like this week I started making positive changes in my attitude, at the gym there is a big board, which has various info and achievements on there. One thing is a quote of the week and this week it resonated with me. And I think it was something like “winners train, losers complain” and to be honest I knew I had been negative up until this week and even though I was enjoying training there was still a lot of complaining.

Week 5

I don’t even know where to start with week five. I have been trying to think of a way to describe it and all I can come up with is perfect (with 1 day to go) Monday morning we had off because of a public holiday, but the guys weren’t just like “nup public holiday not training” they want to throw in a session on Friday which I think is awesome very classy.

Anyway getting off track so first positive of this week. Monday morning there was no training and I was upset! I genuinely felt I wanted to be training and was even motivated enough to do some training with my brother. And I am enjoying before and after now so I enjoy being at the training sessions. I’m not just there wishing I wasn’t.

Second positive, something I don’t think I have written about previously I have personal goals that I set at the beginning of the year when I weighed 150kgs my first goal was to get into the 120’s so 129.9, 130.0 was not good enough having been a while since weighing myself I decided to do it and I had hit my first goal! 129.5 (I haven’t been under 130kgs in three years!) meaning since starting training I have lost a total of 10kgs in 5 weeks! My other goals are 115kgs, 100kgs and 90kgs is the ultimate goal.

This kind of ties in with the second positive, but the third positive is that I increased my squat weight by 20kgs and dead lifts by 10kgs. The reason I am super happy about this is to me I feel like I am not only loosing weight but I am getting stronger too, so none of the weight I have lost is muscle.

I could be missing something but this week has been awesome, the guys are all super supportive, I was telling my best mate about it today (who is a similar size to myself) and you know he said it sounds great and is even jealous. But the trainers are good, the others guys that are there training are good, which makes it easier to get up and train when the people you’re training with are cool. My mind set has been good all week, and I feel super focused. Also felt better at tennis tonight a lot less gassed.

If there is a negative it is when we did upper body I didn’t increase weight, and I actually went to failure quicker which was annoying but as they say “chin up”.
